cohealth tweet chat: all things tobacco

October 18, 2010

in cohealth,tobacco cessation

2010_10 cohealthtobacco’s a hot topic these days, especially in corporate america. is it a sign of the times? the general public’s more comfortable with tobacco-free environments than ever before. or is it related to companies and other institutions grappling with rising health care costs?

either way, there’s a lot happening out there. tobacco cessation programs, and incentives to complete them, make it into the top wellness benefits offered by 74% of the firms offering health care benefits.  many other companies are turning to penalties. in a recent hewitt survey, 64% said they impose or plan to impose a smoker surcharge. and an increasing number of stories are popping up about companies, hospitals and organizations not hiring tobacco users. is this a “stick” or a pragmatic and culturally-aligned approach that leads by example?

what’s really going on? let’s talk. join our cohealth tweet chat on wednesday, october 20 at noon et. to join in, we recommend using tweetchat.com, which makes it dead-simple to follow the conversation.  it automatically adds the hashtag (#co_health) to your tweets and shows you only tweets related to our chat. consider it your horse blinders.
